Remembering Professor Rashied Small
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Professor Rashied Small. Fondly known simply as Prof, he was a pillar of the AVIA: African Virtual Institute of Accountancy, SAIPA, and the accountancy profession both locally and globally.
Prof was more than a leader; he was a visionary. He dedicated his life to advancing the profession and uplifting those within it. His contribution to countless initiatives laid the foundation for the growth, transformation, and empowerment of practitioners across the continent. His work did not merely change processes, it changed people.
Yet, beyond his professional brilliance, Prof was a philanthropist at heart. He helped quietly, humbly, and generously, never seeking recognition or praise. His kindness was immeasurable. He had a rare gift of making every person feel seen, valued, and important, no matter who they were or how busy he might have been. When he spoke to you, it felt like you were the only person in the room.
He saw beyond the present and imagined what could be. He was not only a pioneer in the profession, he was decades ahead of his time. Despite his stature and achievements, he remained grounded, compassionate, and deeply connected to those around him.
Prof leaves behind a legacy that is vast, meaningful, and enduring. It is a legacy of education, empowerment, integrity, and humanity. We can only aspire to continue the journey he began and to honour the values he lived so effortlessly.
To his family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched, we extend our deepest condolences. May you find comfort in knowing that he will forever be remembered, cherished, and celebrated.
Prof will never be forgotten.
His light lives on in the profession, in our work, and in our hearts.
May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace.
