Driving Progress and Accountability through Accountancy

The South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Deirdre (Dee) Botha as a new member of the SAIPA Board.

A Chartered Director (SA), Non-Executive Director and Global Chief Assurance Executive, Ms Botha brings more than 30 years of experience advising boards and audit committees across the public, private and non-profit sectors. She currently serves as Chief Assurance Officer at Save the Children International, one of the world’s largest humanitarian organisations.

Ms Botha has held senior international assurance and governance roles, including serving as Global Chief Audit Executive at World Vision International, a US$4 billion non-profit organisation, where she led almost 250 audit and investigation professionals across 100 countries. Her Board and Board Committee experience spans financial and professional services, education, healthcare and the public sector. She has also chaired Audit and Risk Committees and served on Remuneration, Nomination and Transformation Committees.

Her areas of expertise include governance, risk management, internal controls, assurance and organisational transformation. Her contribution to corporate governance has been recognised through the Institute of Directors’ African Corporate Governance Showcase awards, including recognition for her role in the turnaround of financial reporting at a large public sector fund.

Prior to her international roles, Ms Botha served as Head of Audit at the South African Reserve Bank and as a Senior Director (Partner) at Deloitte Africa. She began her career in ICT, training and education within the financial services sector.

Ms Botha holds an Executive MBA, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Higher Diploma in IT Audit (HDipIT Audit), in addition to her Chartered Director (SA) designation.

As a Board member, Ms Botha will bring an independent perspective, strong professional judgement and extensive governance and assurance experience to SAIPA’s strategic oversight. Her commitment to accountability, upliftment and good corporate governance aligns with the Institute’s continued focus on strengthening leadership and creating value for members and the profession.
