SAIPA Notification: 01 May 2020
Summary of Level 4 restrictions & guidelines for Professional Accountants (SA)
Dear {{ first_name }} {{ last_name }},

As we move to level 4 of the lockdown and the gradual lifting of restrictions in order to get some momentum back into the economy, members should take note of the following guidelines provided below.
Guidelines on Professional Accountants (SA) going back to the office

Accountants are part of professional services and can resume operations from 1 May ONLY if work from home is not possible, and ONLY to support other Alert Level 4 Services. (Please refer to regulations published in Government Gazette No. 43258 on 29 April, Table 1 Part H9.)

SAIPA members and the accounting profession as a whole are still NOT regarded as essential services. However, members will be permitted to return to their offices in situations where they are not capable of operating at home but must operate according to the rules and guidelines set out.

Safety of staff, clients and general public are critical

Members are urged to demonstrate their professional judgment in adhering to the workplace plan guidelines set out by government. If accountants and employees need to go to their workplace or visit clients, the safety protocols set out need to be understood and adhered to by all employees returning or travelling, as well as the sanctions put in place, if these rules are not obeyed. If these rules are contravened, penalties in Section 38 of OHSA will apply.
