Evaluator and Assessor Certificate Course is now open

The Evaluator/Assessor General module is designed to provide practitioners with the assessor competencies to meet SAIPA’s assessor and quality reviewer standards and requirements. The course will be led by Professor Rashied Small, Executive: Centre of Future Excellence (CoFE) who is internationally recognised as an expert Accounting Educationalist.

This Evaluator/Assessor module is a prerequisite for individuals to be appointed as SAIPA assessors for SAIPA in their areas of specialisations.

The course consists of:

  • interactive online classes which will be delivered via the Zoom platform
  • Completion of practical assessment activities after the classes
  • Submission of practical assessment activities (usually due prior to the next class)
  • Class recording which can be accessed for later reference
  • Live online orientation webinar

The practical assessment activity will be an assessment task where you may need access to other individuals, groups, or a qualified trainer and/or assessor to meet the task requirements. For example, short answer questions are not considered a practical activity.

Assessor skills required:

  • Report writing skills that meet SAIPA’s standards
  • Ability to put a candidate at ease and help them demonstrate their skills and abilities.
  • Basic IT skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Planning and organisation skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Entry Requirements

You must demonstrate vocational competency in your proposed assessing area. This means you need to have experience in the field you will evaluate, e.g., accounting firms, tertiary institutions in particular accounting departments, finance departments in business and the public sector and/or training offices. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience and may include holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

You must have:

  • An appropriate professional designation from an IFAC recognised member organisation.
  • Access to a computer (with Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word and a web browser installed)
  • Access to the internet
  • Access to a video and audio recording device such as a smartphone or webcam
  • Access to Zoom and Teams
  • An understanding of how to use Microsoft Word and Adobe Reader, be able to download, scan and upload documents, and know how to access online materials.
  • Registered on SAIPA CRM for access to SAIPA’s Learner Management System.

Documents required:

  • A detailed CV
  • Copy of qualifications
  • A copy of a membership certificate of any recognised professional body, where applicable
  • A Letter of Good Standing from your Recognised Professional Accounting Organisation, where applicable
  • A Certified Copy of ID

Assessments will be conducted using some, or a combination of the following:

  • Direct observation
  • Attendance
  • Portfolio of Evidence
  • Case Study
  • Third-party testimonial

Course Fees

Module 1:  Course fees R3500 inclusive of VAT (Evaluator and Assessor Certificate Course). This course is compulsory for all assessors.
